Head NEVER ever works

Yard Size: Greater than 3 Acres
I bought this trimmer thinking it would do the job on my small farm. The trimmer itself is ok, not great but ok, but the head on this thing never ever works. It binds up and never releases more string. I have rewound it several times and took it back to where I bought it and even they said the head is junk. The engineers who design this stuff should be required to actually use it. And how this thing passed quality control is beyond me. As it stands now, it is literally unusable and I am beyond angry.
This is the first Cub Cadet product I've purchased and am pleased with it so far. I bought this trimmer at Tractor Supply (on sale) after years of junk Craftman power yard tools...I will never buy another Craftman power tool. This trimmer has a powerful engine and a very durable trimmer line assembly. Pretty easy to start and runs smoothly. The shoulder strap set up isn't great and takes a little homegrown modification to get it so that the trimmer is comfortably balanced. For the money, I am very happy with this unit and will probably buy some attachments for it.
it is so far out of balance, makes it hard to control. does not run like it should. the j-handle is located on the shaft houseing, in a manner that it is in the way of my left leg. the shoulder strap clip is located to close to throttle control. has bad vibration when throttle contrl is first pressed. it would be less work to use a pair of scissors. i am on my way to return it.
I have been needing a trimmer and have tried 4 different trimmers in the last week. A TroyBilt, Husqavarna, Craftsman and finally this one. The Troy and Craftsman were exactly the same and I could not keep the Husqavarna one running. I finally came across this one down at Tractor Supply when I went to buy some wheels for my mower deck. This one has the biggest and most powerful engine (31cc) for the money. The spark plug is on the bottom, so you can rest your elbow on the engine cover and you won't burn it. This is my favorite feature! I also like the split shaft so I can add different attachments like a hedge trimmer without having to buy a dedicated gas hedge trimmer. I had a curved shaft string trimmer for 20+ years that was made by Servicstar Co'op. that was very similar design to this. I am looking forward another 20 years with this Cub. I have only used it for a day, so I can't speak for longevity yet, but I will edit or add another review if the experience goes downhill.
